It is my great pleasure to welcome all the participating teams to the 11th edition of the FINA World Women’s Junior Water Polo Championships (20 & under), organised in Volos (GRE) from August 17-23, 2015.
Since 2011, FINA organises World Junior/Youth Water Polo Championships for two age groups: 20 & under and 18 & under. The new competition format offers a unique opportunity for the young water polo players to show their talent at international level. To stage competition for young athletes is important to FINA, as we strive to inspire the fresh water polo generation with the values of fair play and the Olympic spirit.
Volos will welcome 16 women’s teams, coming from internationally-recognised and developing nations in the sport, with the following composition: the host country, 1 from Africa, 5 from the Americas, 1 from Asia, 8 from Europe and 2 from Oceania.
Thanks to a very careful organisation, all the conditions are met for a great competition, in which our athletes will certainly feel at home. The enthusiasm of the spectators in Volos and the coverage of the media are also powerful vehicles for the promotion of the championships and of water polo.
I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the Hellenic Swimming Federation, the Organising Committee, the local authorities, and all the sponsors and partners for their hard work and devotion. I am sure that players and audience alike will keep vivid memories from the 11th edition of the FINA World Women’s Junior Water Polo Championships (20 & under).
I wish the teams participating in these Championships all the luck and the best to win.
